A great sense of 'community' in school

Significant Success

We have just completed the Dreams and Goals Puzzle. The result was that all the Junior classes made and sold something for charity. Apart from cake stalls or nonuniform days this was something new for us.

As we have a school charity it seemed appropriate to raise money for this. The infants set up and ran a cake stall – always a winner.

The three junior classes decided to be a bit for adventurous and made bird fat balls, bath bombs and grass heads. Factory systems were set up in the three junior classrooms. It was a real team effort – perhaps putting a bit of individuality on this Puzzle outcome but with a result of a real sense of community and achievement.

The children really took ownership of the whole event and thoroughly enjoyed making, costing, advertising and selling. The children set up the stalls and bought as well as sold items they had made. We raised over £200 for our School Charity – Gunjur – a community in the Gambia.

Teachers being teachers, we never follow the rule book to the letter but always like to put our own stamp on things and we feel we have been allowed to do this with Jigsaw. The structure is there if you want it but hopefully we haven’t ruined it by changing it and making it fit Bucklebury.

We are now looking forward to our ‘Healthy Me’ Puzzle together with all that lies ahead for next term. It is great to do new things.
