Mighty Jino's day out in North Somerset

Significant success with PSHE Curriculum Development, Dreams and Goals and General Ethos

The Mighty Jigsaw Friends have just arrived at our warehouse in Poole and as I was planning a day of visits to schools in Weston-Super-Mare, I thought that Mighty Jino would like to come along and meet some of the children who are learning with Jigsaw.

Mighty Jinos day out 1

We set off early in the morning with Mighty Jino firmly strapped into the car. Our first stop was to a school which doesn’t yet have Jigsaw, but hopefully will do so soon. Mighty Jino stayed in the car for this visit, although as we parked outside a nursery, there were many inquisitive little faces at the car window wondering who he was.

Ashcombe Primary

We then visited Ashcombe Primary School, which has been a Jigsaw School for several years. They had the most fantastic display up for Dreams and Goals, with contributions from every year group and indeed each child in the school. It was really spectacular and ready to be shared with parents for their forthcoming Parents’ Evenings. Mighty Jino met lots of new friends in this school, both during the walk across the playground during break time and once we got inside, when the School Council joined him to have their photograph taken with him. He was also excited to meet his smaller Jigsaw friends which the children brought along.

Mighty Jinos day out 3

The Jigsaw Champion, David Mann, has done an amazing job of making sure that the Jigsaw message reaches all parts of the school and guides everything they do. It was a wonderful school for Mighty Jino and me to visit.

Old Mixon Primary

We then went on to Old Mixon Primary School, where Jigsaw has been used in the school for some time, and they have a new and very enthusiastic Jigsaw Champion, Carolyn Newton, who is going to be leading Jigsaw across the school. Mighty Jino waited patiently in the Reception to meet the children. He then had his photo taken with some of the younger children, who were very taken with him. I think he would have been very happy to stay there with them!

Mighty Jinos day out 4

Walliscote Primary

After that we had a few minutes to visit the beach, where Mighty Jino had his photo taken. It was then off to our last Jigsaw school, Walliscote Primary, which was really close to the seaside. This school has not had Jigsaw for very long and is beginning to introduce it to children, parents and teachers. They are very lucky to have Emma Grist as their Jigsaw Champion, as she has used Jigsaw at a previous school and so arrives there with experience and lots of enthusiasm for the programme. While no one was looking, Mighty Jino went and sat on the teacher’s chair in her classroom!

Mighty Jinos day out 6

She then found some lovely children to meet Mighty Jino and they all made funny faces with him. He was a huge hit there and I’m sure with Emma guiding it forward, Jigsaw will also be a huge hit with the children at Walliscote. At this point Mighty Jino’s work was done and you can see how exhausted he was!

I, however, still had one more school to visit which does not yet have Jigsaw. Once again they were very interested and hopefully will also soon be joining the Jigsaw group.

Mighty Jinos day out 7

With Mighty Jino sprawled out on the back seat, it was time to wake him up, strap him in and drive home. Lots of happy memories followed us home from Weston- Super-Mare and all the wonderful children, Jigsaw Champions and other people that we met.  Mighty Jino was excited to get back to the warehouse to tell the other Mighty Jigsaw Friends all about his adventure!
